Visit to Educulture Junkanoo Museum, Bahamas

The Educulture Junkanoo Museum is a famous attraction in The Bahamas, which allows guests to experience Junkanoo, the islands foremost expression of culture.

The rhythmic sounds of cowbells, goat skin drums and whistles, accompanied by an array of brass instruments, create a sweet musical beat. Reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de Leon got to try her hand at shaking ‘cowbells’, which is an important instrument in the Junkanoo sound and got to pose in a traditional headpiece.

Junkanoo is one of the Bahamas' most colourful traditions but has its roots in Africa. Described as a carnival with a Bahamian twist, it was brought over to The Bahamas more than 200 years ago by slaves from West Africa, originally as a form of celebration and over the years has transformed into an art form.
