Miss World Europe 2018 is Running for Parliament

Maria Vasilevich was officially registered as a candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Belarus, which will be held on November 17 for a seat in the House of Representatives, a lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament.

Maria believes it is important to uphold the rights of youth. She said: “Young people are always watched with apprehension. There is even a special term for it - ephebiphobia., the fear of youth. It was first introduced by psychologist Kirk Astroth in the mid-1990s and today, examples of ageism can be observed everywhere. This is a trend I understand and want to change.

“Youth is dignity and responsibility. I want to show young people like me that you don't have to sit idly by. I have always taken an active life position, and in my 22 years, in my opinion, I have some experience, knowledge and a desire to contribute to the development of Belarus.”

According to the latest data, 560 candidates have registered for the elections to the House of Representatives, of which 27% are women and 9.5% are young people under 30.
