Miss World Jamaica 2019 Crowned

Toni-Ann Singh, 23, from Morant, Saint Thomas was crowned Miss World Jamaica 2019 in a grand coronation spectacular at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston on Saturday 21 September.

Crowned by her predecessor Kadijah Robinson, who was also crowned Miss World Caribbean 2018, Singh said: “This is all feels rather surreal. I feel like I want to fall into my mum’s arms, but aside from that, I feel humbled to be able to represent my country in this way. It’s an honour and I don’t take that lightly at all. My family being here tonight was very important and their support motivated me to do my utmost best. When Dad came on stage to hug me, he accidentally knocked the crown off, but that's just dad!”

The psychology and women studies graduate from the Florida state university has taken a year off before enrolling in medical school to study to become a doctor.

Asked by judges: “If you are chosen to be Miss Jamaica World, how would you use your crown to contribute positively to your society?”

Singh responded: “With or without the Miss Jamaica World Crown, I will continue to be an advocate for women. I believe women are the lifeblood of our community. So, I will continue to inspire and work with them, so they understand just how great their potential is. I will also use my compassion to be an excellent ambassador.”

Jamaica sent its first representative to Miss World in 1959 and to date, Jamaica has won three Miss World titles in 1963, 1976 and 1993.

Judges for the show included former Miss World 1976 Cindy Breakspeare, Miss World Jamaica 2017 Solange Sinclair, Mr Jamaica 1995 Richard Nevers.

The evening started with a tribute to the late Miss Jamaica World director, Aston Cooke. Entertainment was provided by Dimario McDowell, who did a medley of Jamaican reggae, and comedian, Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley.

Toni-Ann will now enjoy a year of appearances in her new role and will represent Jamaica along with 130 contestants from around the world at the three-week festival and 69th Miss World Final in London.

The highly-anticipated Miss World final show will be broadcast globally to over 150 countries, where global fans can watch reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León, pass the crown to the 69th Miss World.
