Miss World Spain 2019 Crowned

María del Mar Aguilera Zuheros was declared Miss World Spain 2019 on 18th August at the grand Carvajal Auditorium, Melilla, in front of an audience of over 4000 people. Maria takes over the tenure from Miss World Spain 2018, Amaia Izar Leache. On her coronation, she exclaimed, "I feel prepared and wanting to say this." Maria is a 21 year old Psychologist and model who represented the city of Córdoba.

52 contestants competed at the national final, which was live streamed on the official you tube channel of Miss World Spain and the Facebook page of TV Melilla.  Contestants participated in preliminary events that parallel some of those at the Miss World contest. These were Beauty With A Purpose, Multimedia, Sports, Talent and Top Model.

Beauty With A Purpose carries significant points within the competition. Maria presented a project that is significant in her life because it relates to her profession as a Psychologist. She has been raising awareness of mental illness through information and experience. She set out this objective having been a psychologist volunteer at a centre for people with bipolar disorder.

All of the Miss World Spain contestants have been active in the community, as well as undertaking personal Beauty With A Purpose projects. Their work has made the headlines! On 14th August the contestants cleared 350 kg of plastic from the beaches of Melilla. They undertook various activities to prevent plastic pollution throughout that week, as part of their roles as Plastic Free Ambassadors of the Trasmediterranean Weapons Group. This work was a collaboration scheduled with the Naviero Group and NGO Oceanidas.

At the Plastic Free Ambassadors enrolment ceremony, the director of Trasmediterranean, Miguel Pardo stated,

“We ask you for help so that you, who are now in the focus of public attention, use all your communication channels to convey to society the importance of reducing the use of plastics, as well as the need to keep our seas clean and its coasts...we want to thank you for getting so involved. It is an honor for us to count on your help and we hope that the message reaches the more people the better.”

Miss World 2015, Mireia Lalaguna, who represented Spain was honoured at the national final and an essential member of the judging panel. The jury was chaired by Francisco Fajardo and Miss Melilla 2003, Farah Ahmed and Lawyer, Rachid Mohamed were also judges.

Maria will now enjoy a year of appearances in her new role and will represent Spain, along with 130 contestants from around the world, at the three-week festival and 69th Miss World Final.

The highly-anticipated Miss World final show will be broadcast globally to over 150 countries, where global fans can watch reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León, pass the crown to the 69th Miss World.
