Two Presidents. One day

President Yoweri Museveni welcomed Julia Morley Chairman and CEO, reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León and Miss World Africa 2018, Quiin Abenakyowho called on him at his country home in Rwakitura in Kiruhuura district.

President Museveni appealed to both Miss World and Miss World Africa 2018 to popularise the tourism potential of Uganda. He highlighted the hospitality of the Ugandan people and extended an invitation to Miss World to come back in the future to Uganda and enjoy the country’s tourism and hospitality.

Museveni said: “I am happy to meet Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León and once again our own Miss World Africa, Quiin Abenakyo. I welcome Miss Ponce to the Pearl of Africa, a land of fantastic weather and fascinating tourist attractions. Enjoy your stay here.

“Unfortunately, I was in a hurry to meet the Ankole regional leaders in Mbarara, but we have agreed that she should return, (perhaps in different attire) to see the marvel of the Ankole long-horned cattle.”

Miss World Vanessa described the African continent and Uganda in particular as ‘exceptionally beautiful’ saying that her people in native Mexico, were not aware of its unbelievable beauty. She explained to the President that ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ is dedicated to helping children worldwide to a better healthier, safer life with opportunities for education and employment so that in turn they will be able to give their children a brighter tomorrow.

She added that she is in Uganda on a six-day visit to support Miss Uganda, Quinn Abenakyo, who has initiated several projects in the country aimed at the promotion of the education of the girl child and the betterment of women.

Then back at the hotel, Julia met an old friend South Africa’s ex-President, H.E. Thabo Mbeki, who is in Uganda for talks with African leaders to discuss the future of the Horn of Africa. He said: “I heard you were in Uganda. I am so glad to see you again and hear that Miss World and the ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ projects continue to improve the lives of many disadvantaged people across the continent.”

Miss World will attend tonight’s crowning of Miss World Uganda 2019 at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel.
