The Pearl Of Africa

A media frenzy ensued as reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce De León and Julia Morley Chairman and CEO of Miss World touched down at Entebbe for the first-ever visit by the Miss World organisation to Uganda.

The team was welcomed on arrival by Brenda Nanyonjo the licence holder for Miss World in Uganda, Miss Uganda 2018 Quiin Abenakyo who is the reigning Miss World Africa, officials from Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and enjoyed a traditional dance performance.

Speaking to journalists, Vanessa said she could not hold back her excitement after coming to Uganda for the first time. She said: “My sister Quiin has told me so much about Uganda and how it’s the Pearl of Africa. I have only been here a few hours,  but I am already loving it. The people are so friendly and welcoming, the food is amazing, I can see why it’s truly the Pearl of Africa. I can’t wait to meet more people.”

Miss Uganda boss Nanyonjo thanked the Uganda Tourism Board and all the partners who have made this trip possible and said: “Miss World comes at a time when the UTB has invested a lot in making Uganda a tourist destination and this is a step in the right direction.”

The busy 4-day itinerary includes a historic meeting with Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, visits to ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ charitable projects and the crowning of a new Miss Uganda 2019 on Friday 26 July 2019.
