Piers Morgan bowled over by reigning Miss World

Piers Morgan from Good Morning Britain has invited reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León to toss the coin to decide who bats first for the big Morgan XI vs Newick CC clash on Sunday 7 July.

The time-honoured tradition of tossing the coin has been around for 141 years of test cricket history from the inaugural match in 1877 and lets the winning captain choose whether to bat or bowl. Many people believe that the luck of winning the toss can dictate the outcome of the match!

Vanessa said: “I have never been to a cricket match, but I know it involves a ball and a stick...however, I do know how to flip a coin!”

Alongside the TV presenter on Sunday will be world-leading cricketers Chris Gayle, Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pietersen and commentary from the legendary Henry Blofield.

Piers said: “I think the sight of Vanessa in her crown walking out to toss the coin will send the locals into meltdown!”

The annual match raises money for local charities and for the club, which is where Piers’ has played for 40 years.

The day’s entertainment starts at 1.30pm on Sunday at Newick Cricket Club in Allington Road, Newick, and entrance is free.
