Miss World Uganda 2019 Crowned

Oliver Nakakande was crowned at a glamorous event on Friday 23 July at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

The 24-year-old student from Bombo, studying a degree in business management was crowned by reigning Miss World Uganda and Miss World Africa, Quiin Abenakyo and reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce De León.

In attendance was the Rt Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of Parliament for the Republic of Uganda, who praised the Miss World Organisation for giving the contestants confidence in themselves and urged them to continue with what they have learnt regardless of who emerged as the winner.

Reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce De León, thanked Brenda Nanyonjo, the Miss Uganda Foundation CEO for instilling the principles of ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ in the girls’ and promised to return to Uganda where she said she fell in love with matooke (plantain), the traditional dances and the girls that are being given access to education through Quiin’s ‘Keep the girl child in school’ campaign.

Oliver will now enjoy a year of appearances in her new role and will represent Uganda along with 130 contestants from around the world at the three-week festival and 69th Miss World Final.

The highly-anticipated Miss World final show will be broadcast globally to over 150 countries, where global fans can watch reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León, pass the crown to the 69th Miss World.
