Kyabazinga of Busoga honours Miss World Africa

The Kyabazinga of Busoga has honoured Basoga men and women who have distinguished themselves in public life as transformational leaders.

Quiin received the source of the Nile (Eninha ya Kiira) medal, which is awarded to people whose deeds promote and preserve the pride of Busoga

The Kyabazinga said: “We need to change perspective and the way we do things to promote the growth of the people in Busoga. We should promote tourism and education among other activities in the Kingdom, to boost its wealth. These awards recognise people who have served us well and is a message to all Basoga to work hard to promote the Kingdom’s image."

While addressing his subjects at Igenge Palace in Jinja District, the Kyabazinga pledged to raise funds to tackle the escalating issues of child marriages and teenage pregnancies in the sub-region, adding that the campaign will be led by Quiin.

The event was organised by the Busoga Royal Concept, whose chairperson, Prof. Juma Waiswa Balunywa, said the association has piloted a project to get all girls in school so as to empower them to get a share of the national cake.

He said: “Quiin Abenakyo has raised the issue of girls getting pregnant at young ages of 12 to 15 years which hampers their potential progress in life. They should be supported to concentrate more on their studies so as to become successful persons in life.”

With one out of four girls in Uganda, aged between 13 and 17, either pregnant or a mother, HRH Kyabazinga of Busoga has pledged his support for reigning Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ project to keep girls in school and reduce teenage pregnancies.
